Last Ditch, the COVID-conscious lesbian bar in Greenfield, Massachusetts, that made headlines last month when it eased its mask rule, has served its last drink.
The bar became part of the culture war in September, when its owners announced the masks were no longer required on Saturdays, sparking backlash from patrons. Critics wrote on social media that it was a “mass disabling event” and likened it to eugenics.
The bar’s business model was unique in that it strove to be an open space for everyone, including people with “lack of funds.”

In a social media post Monday, the bar wrote that “effective immediately,” “WE ARE CLOSING.”
The bar clarified that it would stay open for prebooked events, with a full closure happening in December. It also said that in order to stay open, it would need “new owners ASAP.”
Last Ditch was founded in 2025 by three housemates, with only one owner remaining by its closure.
“We have put our lives on hold to foster networks of care, resources, and a home base for organizing,” Last Ditch wrote in its Monday post. “It’s time we pass it on.”
