Woody Allen is pressing on with his filmmaking career, with cameras set to roll on another movie in Madrid on Monday, Variety reported Thursday.

The start follows a postponement from the original spring schedule and comes as Allen struggles to finance a New York project, Italian entertainment site Cinefilos reported. The site noted that Mr. Allen has not shot a film in the U.S. in nearly a decade, working instead in Europe.

Mr. Allen wrote and directed the contemporary comedy, which will be shot in English in the city and region of Madrid. It will be his third production in Spain, after “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” (2008) and “Rifkin’s Festival” (2020).

“I will be very happy to return to Spain,” Mr. Allen said. “This will be my third time filming there and my first opportunity to make a film in Madrid, a city I have always loved.”

His most recent film, “Coup de Chance,” premiered at the Venice Film Festival and sold to distributors in more than 30 countries, Variety reported. The new film stars Marton Csokas, Jemima Kirke, Jakob Oftebro, Peter Vives and Alexi Wasser, an ensemble Spanish producer Wanda Vision announced in mid-September.

Spanish outlets report the project has a sponsorship deal worth 1.5 million euros from the regional government of the Community of Madrid.

WestEnd Films, which has long handled Mr. Allen’s work, will introduce the film to international buyers at the American Film Market. “We’re delighted to continue our long-standing collaboration with Woody Allen and his team,” WestEnd managing director Maya Amsellem said.
