Police are investigating after a couple alleged that, as they were driving on Virginia State Route 267, someone on an overpass dropped a rock or concrete chunk that struck their car.
Dylan Martinez told Washington’s WRC-TV that he, his wife Christina Martinez, their children and their friends were driving home from Leesburg in the early hours Monday when they saw two people on the Sycolin Road overpass and something thrown down. The object hit the car’s hood, then the windshield.
Mr. Martinez said that just after pulling over, he and Ms. Martinez saw another driver’s car get hit by another object thrown from the same spot and that the driver also pulled over safely.
The Virginia State Police confirmed to WRC that they’re investigating the incident.
“One second you’re doing a sing-along with your kids who just got to stay up late with their friends and everything. And the next thing you know, the windshield explodes,” Mr. Martinez told WRC, adding that the people responsible “could’ve killed six people.”
Ms. Martinez told Washington’s WTTG, “I want to make sure that they’re held accountable so that the next time we’re talking about this, it’s not because somebody lost their life.”
