The armed forces of the United Kingdom, known as His/Her Majesty's Armed Forces or sometimes the British Armed Forces, and sometimes legally the Armed Forces of the Crown, encompasses the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force. The British Armed Forces are a purely professional and volunteer force with a reported personnel strength in 2009 of 197,900 Regulars and 42,300 Volunteers (Total 240,200). The British armed forces are the 2nd largest military in the EU in terms of professional personnel, though only 3rd in terms of over-all manpower. In addition the British armed forces have 195,300 in reserve. The British Armed Forces have the third highest declared expenditure of any military in the world, only behind the United States and the People's Republic of China. - Source: Wikipedia
