The Army on Wednesday identified an officer who died last month in Qatar.
Capt. Bianca C. Wilkerson, 37, of Norfolk, Virginia, is the 19th U.S. service member to die while deployed to the Middle East in support of the Iran war. She died Sept. 18 in a “non-combat incident” in Doha, Qatar.
“The incident is under investigation,” Army officials said in a statement.
Capt. Wilkerson, who was posthumously promoted to major, was assigned to U.S. Army Central Command headquarters at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
Her death is listed in the Defense Casualty Analysis System as a military casualty from “Overseas Operations” rather than Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. and Israeli campaign against Iran. The Pentagon declared the end of Epic Fury on July 7.
