SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine police have arrested a New York City man they say used teenage girls to spend counterfeit $100 bills at a mall.
A worker at the Maine Mall in South Portland contacted police at about 6 p.m. Monday to say a young woman had tried to use a fake $100 bill to make a purchase.
Police talked to the 16-year-old girl and found out there were three other teen girls at the mall doing the same thing. Police recovered $1,000 in fake currency.
Officers also found 20-year-old Andrew Cupidore hiding in a mall bathroom.
He is being held on $25,000 bail on charges of aggravated forgery and endangering the welfare of a child. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
The girls were taken to a youth detention facility.
