SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A man whose body was found wrapped in a plastic tarp in a Salt Lake County canyon died from blunt force trauma.

Police identified the cause of death Friday for 26-year-old Alejandro Reyes, of West Jordan.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2dVhZIv) the cause of the trauma or possible weapon involvement remains unclear.

Unified police say they responded to Butterfield Canyon in Herriman after hikers spotted the body Wednesday.

The body was found about 20 feet off the road in a ditch.

It is unclear how long the body had been there before it was discovered in the canyon.

Reyes was reported missing to West Jordan police by family members on Wednesday just a few hours after his body was found.

He was last seen Oct. 1.
