A Maryland man appeared in federal court Tuesday on charges of threatening President Trump and the Secret Service in a series of Facebook posts.
Between May 12 and July 27, Donald Swope, 53, made Facebook posts threatening Mr. Trump, including one that read “I will behead you Donald J. Trump and no longer will MY people bare your mark!!,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland said in a release.
Mr. Swope, of Clear Spring, Maryland, is also accused of making posts on Aug. 5 that threatened the Secret Service and additional threatening posts between Aug. 6 and Aug. 8.
Federal prosecutors charged Mr. Swope with making threats against the president, interstate communication containing a threat to harm someone and influencing, impeding or retaliating against a federal official by threatening or injuring their family.
If convicted, Mr. Swope faces up to five years in prison on each of the threatening communication counts, and up to 10 years on the count of retaliation against a federal official, prosecutors said.
