The Bat Signal has been lit up, as director-producer James Gunn says a new Batman will be swooping into his rebooted DC Universe soon.

Mr. Gunn, who has headed DC Studios since 2022, said in a new podcast that will air in full Friday, “It won’t be too long before we’re casting Batman.”

He added, “We haven’t cast yet, by the way — all the people thinking he’ll show up in this or that, it’s all bulls—-. One of the things that excites me about casting Batman is being able to pick a Batman who’s actually the best actor for that role. Supermans have always been chosen based on who the best actor for that role is. And for some reason, Batmans are always chosen as movie stars.”

Mr. Gunn also confirmed that whoever plays Batman will be close in age to the new Superman played by 33-year-old David Corenswet.

Totally separate from that, fans can also look forward to “The Batman Part II” scheduled for a 2028 release.

Robert Pattinson plays that version of the Caped Crusader — in another universe from Mr. Gunn’s DC.

DC Studios released “Clayface” on Friday, which has grossed $52.8 million on a budget estimated to be $30 million to $44 million. Mr. Gunn’s new DC Universe launched in 2025 with the release of “Superman.”
