Country band The Chicks brought out Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico onstage during a Saturday concert in San Antonio, Texas.
Mr. Talarico told the crowd he was “proud The Chicks are from Texas” — a play on the 2003 incident in which the band’s lead singer, Natalie Maines, told a London crowd that she was “ashamed” former President George W. Bush was from the state.
Mr. Talarico went on to call the trio an example of “Texas excellence.”

“When you have a voice, you have a responsibility to use it,” said Mr. Talarico, who is vying with Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton for the open Senate seat.
Ms. Maines drew fresh scrutiny from the White House on Oct. 12, when she told a New York crowd that in retrospect, she would give Mr. Bush a “big, wet kiss” over President Trump, who she said she’s “ashamed is from the United States.”
The White House responded in a statement: “Natalie Maines is a despicable nobody who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her peanut-sized brain.”
