President Trump is setting his sights on New Mexico as part of his renaming binge.

The president, writing on social media, said the Southwest state should rename itself as “New America,” reasoning it would add “great value and prestige to the state.”

“Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag!” Mr. Trump said on social media.

He alleged the state holds “crooked elections” and that they would “become honest again” under a new name.

Mr. Trump’s interest in renaming the state follows his decision to formally rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and Lake Ontario as Lake America.

Mr. Trump renamed the gulf at the start of his second term and renamed the Great Lake during his trade fight with Canada.

Canadians said the renaming was off the mark because the province got its name from the lake, which is named after an old Native American word roughly translated as “beautiful lake.”

Spanish explorers used the term “Nuevo México” to describe the future territory before Mexico existed as an independent nation.

Nonetheless, the president drew a contrast between the neighboring nations.

“New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America!” Mr. Trump said.
