Actor Johnny Depp says he could again play one of his most iconic characters should the call arrive.

Mr. Depp, 63, told Entertainment Tonight while promoting his new movie “Ebenezer” that he would be willing to take up the mantle of Captain Jack Sparrow once again to give the film series the sendoff it never got.

The actor said he and “Pirates” producer Jerry Bruckheimer were talking about “kicking that off again.”

“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they are going to top off the ‘Pirates’ franchise … the only involvement I really want to have, truly, is just to send them off on a better note,” Mr. Depp said.

His Jack Sparrow has not appeared onscreen since 2017’s “Dead Men Tell no Tales.” In 2022, during his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, he said he would not do another “Pirates” movie, even if Disney paid him “$300 million.”

Mr. Bruckheimer told Deadline this past summer, “We’re talking with Johnny.”

Mr. Depp’s “Ebenezer,” a new take on “A Christmas Carol,” opens Nov. 13.

A day after the film’s premiere in New York City on Sunday, Mr. Depp was seen dressed as Scrooge knocking down presents in Bryant Park.
