An angry diner took to Reddit to post the receipt they got after eating at the Denver, Colorado, location of Earls, an upscale dining chain in the U.S. and Canada.
The reason for the outrage? A tacked-on 3% “admin fee” that added 83 cents to the overall bill.
In the picture, the diner’s receipt showed a $24.75 charge for a burger, with an extra $3 spent on truffle fries. Gratuity was not automatically added to the bill.

“What the hell is even an ‘Admin Fee’?” the customer wrote on Reddit. “Can a guy even enjoy a burger without being harassed and extorted in this God-forsaken place? This p— me off … No tip for you!”
As of press time, over 180 people commented on the post and over 300 “upvoted” it on Reddit.
“Is this at an airport restaurant inside a Disney or something???” one confused Redditor replied. “$30 for burger and fries?”
“I’m charging a ‘customer fee’ the next time I eat out,” wrote someone else.
The customer’s outrage at the surcharge follows a recent trend of Americans growing tired of what they view as unnecessary tipping. A Popmenu survey in June found that 78% of consumers believe tipping practices have become “ridiculous.”
