Steve Ellis, the British singer who fronted the band Love Affair, famous for their 1967 hit “Everlasting Love,” died Friday at 76, according to a post on the artist’s Facebook page.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of Steve’s passing,” the post read. “After complications from a chronic illness, Steve peacefully left the world … in the presence of his loved ones.”
Mr. Ellis’ band Love Affair formed in 1966 and soon after had a hit with their cover of Robert Knight’s “Everlasting Love.” Love Affair’s version went on to top the U.K. singles chart in 1967, knocking the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye” from the No. 1 spot. The song did not chart in the U.S.
