MILWAUKEE (AP) - Wisconsin recorded more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths due to complications from the coronavirus, state health officials said Monday.
The update increased the total number of positive tests to 542,415 and the cumulative deaths to 5,896 since the start of the pandemic. Wisconsin ranks 39th in the country for new cases per capita in the last two weeks and 33rd per capita in fatalities, according to The COVID Tracking Project.
Project research finds that over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases in the state has decreased by 1,021, a decline of more than 39%.
Hospitalizations remained unchanged in the last day, at 680. Of those patients, 185 are being treated in intensive care units.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
