MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House has given preliminary approval to a bill that would ban single-use plastic bags.
The vote Thursday of 100-24 would ban the use of single-use plastic bags and polystyrene food and drink containers effective in July 2020.
A similar proposal passed in the Senate.
Vermont Republican Gov. Phil Scott said Thursday that he wants to hear from the state’s retailers and grocers before making up his mind on the bill.
A number of states across the country are considering such measures as a way to reduce pollution.
