WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - State officials are commending four Connecticut communities that all saw over three-fourths of their voters go to the polls last November.

West Hartford is one of four municipalities to receive a “Democracy Cup” for voter turnout last fall after 75 percent of residents went to the polls. The Hartford Courant reports Washington won the “small” municipality category with about 88 percent, Granby won for “mid-sized” with about 77 percent, Guilford won for “large” with about 80 percent, and West Hartford won for “city.”

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill’s office says state wide turnout was about 65 percent.
