BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont town has received a donated 96-acre nature reserve.
The Bennington Select Board unanimously accepted a donation of conserved land from the One World Conservation Center on Monday. The Bennington Banner reports the center is in the process of dissolving its assets after closing in early 2018 due to financial struggles.
The Norman and Selma Greenberg Conservation Reserve consists of a heavily-forested nature reserve with wetlands, open meadows, a moderate hiking trail system, a boardwalk-style wetland overlook and a sturdy bridge that crosses Jewett Brook.
The donation does not include the former conservation center building across Route 7 from the reserve and will not reduce taxes in Bennington, as the property is tax-exempt.
