NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A serial bank robber who didn’t wear a disguise when he robbed three Connecticut banks and who paid for a motel room with dye-soaked bills has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
A judge told 41-year-old Andre Edwards at sentencing on Thursday “you were not very clever,” pointing out that the Hamden man did nothing to conceal his identity during the robberies and was “all over the surveillance tapes,” then paid for a room with money covered in red dye.
The New Haven Register reports that Edwards’ public defender argued for leniency, saying her client confessed and did not use a weapon. She said Edwards has a substance abuse problem.
