KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - A backlog at the Montana State Hospital may cause a delay in the case of a Whitefish man accused of stabbing his father to death last summer.

Tanner L. Hosek is charged with felony deliberate homicide in the death of Eric Hosek on July 9, 2018.

Hosek has pleaded not guilty and his trial set for November.

But the Flathead Beacon reports that Hosek’s attorneys said last week that Hosek has not received a proper mental health evaluation because of a backlog and the trial cannot take place until he gets the evaluation. Judge Robert Allison requested an update on the mental health evaluation during a status hearing scheduled for April 18.

According to court documents, Hosek was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was living under the ward of his parents.
