ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Fire officials have evacuated some residents in a Connecticut town due to a carbon dioxide leak.
A fire department spokesman in Enfield says a resident reported seeing a large vapor cloud behind his house around 5:20 a.m. Thursday.
First responders traced the cloud to a nearby Tech Air facility, where they heard a hissing sound and identified the gas as carbon dioxide. The leak was traced to a broken valve in the company’s backyard.
A regional hazardous materials team was called to the scene and closed nearby railroads, a bridge and evacuated about a dozen homes.
Officials say the leak has been contained, and the carbon dioxide cloud has dissipated.
Tech Air says it will conduct an internal review.
