FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old student at the University of Arkansas has died, two days after she was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old girl who was cited for using a cellphone while driving.

Washington Regional Medical Center said in a statement that the 18-year-old student died on Monday. The woman was walking in a crosswalk on campus at the University of Arkansas on Saturday when she was hit by a BMW car driven by the 17-year-old.

University of Arkansas police say the driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a hand-held device while driving. Under state law, drivers under 18 are prohibited from using cellphones when behind the wheel.

Neither the victim nor the driver has been identified.
