BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A New Town woman who embezzled from a Three Affiliated Tribes program while working as an administrative assistant has been sentenced to $44,000 in restitution and a year of supervised release.

Authorities say 33-year-old Melissa Mandan stole money from a tribal program that helps families whose young children need speech and physical therapy. Mandan said she used the money to support a drug habit.

Mandan pleaded guilty last October to a theft count in a deal with federal prosecutors. The Bismarck Tribune reports she was sentenced Monday.
