ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Police in New Hampshire have taken a man accused of firing a gun at a police officer into custody.

Police say they pulled the man over in the early morning hours of Saturday when he then fired shots toward a Rochester police officer and fled into the woods. The officer wasn’t hit.

WMUR-TV reports police set up a perimeter in the area and located the man by helicopter. Police haven’t named the man, who they say was placed into custody at about 9 a.m. and taken to hospital for a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted.

Authorities advised residents of a nearby mobile home park to shelter in place while the search was taking place.
