DUNWOODY, Ga. (AP) - Police say a driver dragged an officer with his car, smashing the officer against other vehicles to get him off his car.

News outlets report the Dunwoody Police Department says officers pulled the man over for texting while driving about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Police say the driver stopped but then took off with an officer stuck in the driver’s side window.

Authorities say the officer was dragged onto Interstate 285. Sgt. Robert Parsons says the suspect hit other cars to try to get the officer off his car. Ultimately, the officer fell onto the road and the pursuit ended when the man crashed into three other cars.

Police have not released the driver’s name but said he is 35 years old and from Decatur.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released.
