BARRE, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont cadet who police say used a stun gun on another cadet as part of a hazing ritual has pleaded not guilty to a simple assault charge.
The Times Argus reports 20-year-old Michael Anastasio pleaded not guilty in Barre on Tuesday to the misdemeanor. Anastasio also faces a hazing complaint in civil court.
Police were called to Norwich University on Monday. Police say Anastasio had previously told another student in the Corps of Cadets program that he could “earn some points” if he got a stun gun to replace a broken one. Investigators say Anastasio used the new stun gun on the victim’s arm and leg.
Police say Anastasio told investigators the victim had asked him to use the stun gun on him.
Norwich University is investigating the incident.
