SENATOBIA, Miss. (AP) - A county in northern Mississippi is now without a hospital emergency room.

WREG-TV reports that North Oak Regional Medical Center in Tate County closed its emergency room Thursday.

Hospital CEO Philip Hanna says 500 to 600 patients a month had been using the emergency room in Senatobia. But he says the hospital has been losing about $100,000 a month since earlier this year, when the federal Medicare program began reducing the amount it was reimbursing the hospital for care.

The closest emergency rooms to Senatobia are now are in Batesville, which is 24 miles (39 kilometers) to the south, or Southaven, which is 27 miles (43 kilometers) to the north.

Hospital executives did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Monday.
