PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, have accused a man of attaching an item to the city’s Christmas tree that resembled an explosive device, just before the start of a holiday parade.

Police determined the item placed on the tree Saturday was a hoax. The parade was held.

They arrested 36-year-old Richard Todd Will on charges of criminal threatening and disorderly conduct. He was released on bail and scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 14.
