Police: 5-year-old injured after fall from 4th-floor balcony

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - Police say a 5-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after falling from a fourth-floor apartment balcony.

Lauderhill Fire-Rescue Capt. Jerry Gonzalez says the girl’s 17-year-old sister was babysitting her and two younger sisters on Friday afternoon.

In a South Florida Sun Sentinel report , Gonzalez says the girls’ parents were not home when the 5-year-old fell onto the asphalt below the balcony.

Lauderhill Police Lt. Michael Santiago says the children’s mother returned home from a store to find first responders and crime scene tape outside her apartment.
