PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A judge has denied a Portland television station’s request to unseal court documents in the Jeremy Christian case.

Christian is accused of killing two passengers and wounding a third on a light-rail train. Prosecutors say he stabbed the men May 26 after initially yelling hateful comments at two black teenage girls, one of whom was wearing an Islamic head covering called a hijab.

KOIN-TV asked for the search warrant affidavit to be unsealed, contending the public has a legitimate interest in knowing the actions of those responsible for the investigation.

Multnomah County Judge Cheryl Albrecht denied the request Friday, saying Christian’s right to a fair trial outweighed that concern.

Christian has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other crimes. At Friday’s hearing, he yelled: “If I’m a white supremacist, why’d I vote for Bernie Sanders?”
