TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The Tulsa Jail is expecting a shortfall of $3.5 million for the next fiscal year.
The Tulsa World (https://bit.ly/2mV6aRn ) reports the jail conducted a survey that showed Tulsa County may have to subsidize jail operations for a third straight year.
The projection comes six weeks after the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said the jail would likely need an additional $2 million to make it through the current budget year. That would be in addition to $2.4 million allocated at the outset of the budget year.
Brad Johnson, an adviser to Sheriff Vic Regalado, says he believes the report’s projection is conservative.
The jail hopes to boost revenue through various steps, including a new contract with U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement.
