WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - Two counties in northeastern Pennsylvania have reached a settlement over the sale of a minor league baseball team seven years after the lawsuit was first introduced.

The Citizens’ Voice reports (https://bit.ly/2sR0yOr ) the Luzerne County Council approved a $4 million offer from Lackawanna County for the sale of the team to SWB Yankees LLC Tuesday.

The two counties contributed $1 million each to purchase the team in 1986. The Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority of Lackawanna County funded a loan for stadium improvements in 2009.

When sale talks began in 2010, Luzerne County claimed it was owed half the proceeds of the team’s sale in a lawsuit against Lackawanna and the Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority.

Lackawanna later countersued, claiming Luzerne should reimburse county taxpayers for their investment in the stadium before reaching a settlement.
