BOGALUSA, La. (AP) - A Louisiana sheriff’s deputy who spotted an overturned car on fire is being praised for rescuing two women, who were arrested afterward on charges including driving while intoxicated.
Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said screams were coming from the burning car when Deputy Ronnie Manning stopped to help Friday morning. Manning used a hammer to smash the car’s rear window and helped the women escape.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reported other deputies arriving on the scene arrested both women.

A news release from the sheriff said the driver, 34-year-old Bridget Stogner, was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless operation of a vehicle. Her passenger, 30-year-old Brittany Rebecca Purvis, was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. It was not immediately known if the women had attorneys.
