Sen. Ted Cruz said Friday he thinks the U.S. Senate will ultimately confirm all of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees for Cabinet posts.
“I think we are poised to have the most productive Congress in decades. I think we’re going to start off confirming every one of President Trump’s Cabinet nominations,” Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, said on NBC’s “Today” program.
“I think it’s a fantastic Cabinet,” Mr. Cruz said, saying Congress would then turn to repealing Obamacare and other initiatives.
Some of Mr. Trump’s intended nominees, such as Gen. James Mattis, his pick for defense secretary, and Gen. John Kelly, his pick for homeland security secretary, appear as if they could win Senate approval with bipartisan support.
Democrats, though, have raised questions about other picks, such as Rex Tillerson, Mr. Trump’s selection for secretary of state, and Betsy DeVos, his pick for secretary of education.
Mr. Cruz was Mr. Trump’s top Republican rival during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“At this point, I would say we have a very good relationship,” Mr. Cruz said.
He said he told Mr. Trump after the election that he wanted to help in any way he could.
“Since that meeting, my office and his office — we have been talking every day, sometimes as frequently as every hour,” Mr. Cruz said.
