GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The Bassmaster Classic is returning to South Carolina in 2018.
Organizers said Wednesday that the world championship of pro bass fishing will be held on Lake Hartwell in Anderson with daily weigh-ins at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville. It’s the third time since 2008 that Lake Hartwell will host the tournament.
Bruce Akin, CEO of B.A.S.S. that conducts the event, said the 2015 contest in South Carolina drew 103,000 fans despite frigid temperatures during the February tournament.
Akin says he expects next year’s classic to be bigger and warmer.
Takeoffs will be from Anderson’s Green Pond Landing and Event Center, a $3.1 million launch facility.
South Carolina angler Casey Ashley won the 2015 event.
This year’s tournament takes place on Lake Conroe near Houston, Texas next month.
