BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - A 38-year-old Charleston man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy, admitting he helped direct cocaine trafficking in southern West Virginia while jailed on unrelated drug charges.

Prosecutors say Velarian S. Carter, one of 23 people indicted in June after an investigation, faces at least 20 years in prison at sentencing April 17.

Authorities say the group distributed cocaine, crack and heroin in and around Raleigh County.

They say Carter admitted directing others outside the jail on where to sell drugs, including setting prices and how to split proceeds.

Three others implicated have already pleaded guilty.
