BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Federal authorities say five federal inmates have been sentenced to additional time behind bars for possessing weapons at a prison in southern West Virginia.

According to prosecutors, each admitted having a handcrafted weapon with a sharpened point or “shank.” They were made of plastic, metal or wood and either seen or found in searches by staff at the Federal Correctional Institution at McDowell.

Prosecutors say sentences of one year and three months were handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge David Faber to 29-year-old Scott Finnell, 32-year-old Misael Santana-Rivera and 40-year-old Antonio R. Azpeitia.
