PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire (AP) - Residents of the three northern New England states are using a series of rallies to call for the government to tackle environmental and economic problems stemming from climate change.

Rallies occurred on Saturday in places including Portsmouth; New Hampshire, Montpelier, Vermont; and Augusta, Maine. The events were organized to coincide with a national climate march in Washington, D.C.

The Maine People’s Climate March took place outside the Maine State House on Saturday morning. Organizers said they planned to draw attention to the damage climate change can do to marginalized communities.
