PHOENIX (AP) - An inmate has died at an Arizona prison and authorities say it appears to be a suicide.

State Department of Corrections officials announced Monday that 27-year-old Jesse Arvizo was found unresponsive in his assigned housing location Sunday at the Lewis complex in Buckeye.

Prison staff performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Corrections officials say Arvizo died “from an apparent act of self-harm” but didn’t elaborate.

They say Arvizo was serving a 54-month prison term for robbery and was sentenced out of Maricopa County in 2015.

Corrections officials say all inmate deaths are investigated by the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
