MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man has been indicted on attempted murder and assault counts in the shootings of two New Hampshire police officers.
The indictment was released this week against 32-year-old Ian MacPherson.
Authorities say the officers were chasing MacPherson in May because he matched the description of a suspect in a gas station armed robbery.
Police say MacPherson shot Manchester officers Ryan Hardy and Matthew O’Connor. Hardy was shot in the face and torso; O’Connor was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Both have returned to work. Police Chief Nick Willard said the department is relieved to hear the case is moving forward.
MacPherson pleaded not guilty. A message seeking comment from his lawyer was left Friday. MacPherson’s father said he has schizophrenia and the system failed to help him.
