LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey will wait to meet with Gov. Pete Ricketts to discuss his decision to kneel during the national anthem.
A Ricketts spokesman said Friday that the governor’s office offered a few dates to meet with the player, but was told he wants to postpone the meeting until after the season.
Rose-Ivey, Mohamed Barry and DaiShon Neal took a knee during the anthem at the Northwestern game last month to protest police violence against minorities and racial injustice. Ricketts criticized the decision on a radio show, but said he respected the players’ right to protest.
The players knelt in solidarity with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
