MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in a car with two of his friends after she became intoxicated and slipped in and out of consciousness.
The Daily Record reports (https://dailyre.co/2ehbLSA ) a jury convicted 23-year-old Aquil Malik of Union on Monday of charges including aggravated sexual assault.
Authorities say Malik was 17 when the group sexually assaulted the teen in Morristown in 2011.
The teen had asked to be driven home when she vomited after drinking alcohol. She said she awoke to Malik sexually assaulting her.
Malik was tried as an adult.
Malik’s attorney has said his client was intoxicated and believed the teen wanted to have sex.
Two co-defendants have pleaded guilty in the case and were sentenced to a year of probation.
