HARRIMAN, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a boy was struck and killed by a motorcycle after he was dropped off at a school bus stop.

The Highway Patrol says in a news release that after the bus had left, 12-year-old Jacob Paterson of Harriman crossed a road to check the mail when he was hit on Friday.

The statement says the 16-year-old motorcycle operator was taken to a hospital. The teen’s name wasn’t released. No charges were immediately filed.

Media outlets report grief counselors are scheduled to be available to talk to students at the victim’s school Monday.
