TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety is working to use drones on the job.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (https://bit.ly/2e9a35G ) that DPS spokesman Quentin Mehr says the agency is in the process of getting certified by the Federal Aviation Administration to test drones in the line of duty.
Mehr says there is no timetable of when state troopers would begin using drones and that the whole process is in its early stages.
The news comes as the Sahuarita Police Department has announced it will begin using drones as part of its regular investigative tools beginning in December. Sahuarita police will use the drones for criminal investigations and search-and-rescue operations. The drones are equipped to take video and photographs.
