BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - A new report has identified a stretch of U.S. Highway 93 near Kalispell as the most dangerous in Montana for crashes involving vehicles and wildlife.
Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2fjFC9h) that researchers from the Center for Large Landscape Conservation used state data on wildlife carcasses for the last five years to conduct their study. The report looked at several 10-mile-long sections and found that Highway 93 near Kalispell averaged about six carcasses per mile during the fall.
A stretch of Highway 191 west of Bozeman took second place, with about four carcasses per mile.
The report says the Montana Department of Transportation recorded nearly 37,000 wildlife carcasses between 2010 and 2015.
A majority of the carcasses were found in western and southwestern Montana.
