OPINION:
One legacy of the Obama administration is that use of weapons of mass destruction against opposing forces and civilians for military gain is now commonplace. Since declaring a ’red line’ against chemical weapons use in Syria, and failing to follow up with any consequences for their subsequent use, over and over, President Obama will be remembered as the man who let the genie out of the bottle; now that genie can’t be put back in.
The U.N. chief sent a letter to the Security Council on Friday saying in part, “It is imperative that those responsible for the use of chemical weapons should be held accountable,” or their use could become “normalized in this or any conflict, present or future,” reports Associated Press.
It seems now evidence of chemical weapon use has been found in Aleppo, Syria. Russia blames the rebels. The rebels blame Syrian government forces. They probably both are lying. The bottom line is that chemical weapons have been used routinely in this conflict. Now rogue dictators around the world will rebuild their stockpiles and use these weapons in the future as they see the world ensures no consequences.
This will be Obama’s legacy. North Korea and Iran have gone nuclear under his watch. Chemical weapons are being used routinely. The scary thing is that the biological part of the NBC triad is up next. With no accountability in this world, it’s bound to happen.
