A Muslim nanny from Uzbekistan beheaded her client, a 4-year-old Russian girl, while her mother and the remainder of the family was out. The nanny then took the child’s head to a Moscow metro station and paraded the gruesome body part around, holding it high, before Moscow police took her into custody. News reports the woman was shouting, “I am a terrorist!” and “Allah Akbar,” as she calmly walked around the metro station for up to an hour.

Russian authorities have said the woman was mentally unstable and was having marital problems at the time. She had been employed by the family for over a year.

Russian TV has been silent on the issue. One reason why is that upwards of 30 percent of the Russian population is Muslim, especially those in the south of the country, in the Caucasus and the Caspian region. This has been an especially troubling area for the Kremlin for decades. Two Chechen wars were fought for Russian semi-control of the area and Moscow is keen to prevent Islamic unrest.

The Kremlin also may not want to draw attention to negative consequences to its military operations in Syria against anti-Assad forces as well as the Islamic State. Islamic State took credit for the downing of a Russian airliner, bound from Egypt to Moscow, last year. The Kremlin didn’t officially announce the downing was due to terrorism until weeks after the West announced its suspicions of such. The last thing the Kremlin would want to admit however, is another successful Islamic State attack on Moscow’s citizens.

The slain girl’s family was apparently from an area a couple hundred miles south of Moscow, but had moved to the capital to try boost their income enough to afford an operation for their four-year-old daughter, reported CBS News. The mother was rushed to the hospital unconscious after hearing the news.
