BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man in the boating death of a young woman in Hancock County in June.

Department of Marine Resources Marine Patrol Chief Keith Davis told local news media that Eugene Butler Jr. was arrested Monday and taken to the Hancock County jail. He faces a charge of boating under the influence causing death.

It was not immediately clear whether Butler had an attorney who could comment on his arrest.

Authorities have said 19-year-old Vanessa Mauffray died from traumatic injuries suffered when a boat collided with the one she and her boyfriend were in on June 25 near Bordages Brothers’ Marina in Bayou Caddy.
