The Pentagon has identified Air Force Capt. Matthew D. Roland and Staff Sgt. Forrest B. Sibley as the victims of a fatal attack this week in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Thursday that Capt. Roland, 27, and Sgt. Sibley, 31, died from injuries suffered a day earlier while traveling near Camp Antonik in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The airmen hailed from Lexington, Kentucky, and Pensacola, Florida, respectively, and had been supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, the U.S. military’s current mission aimed at training, advising and assisting Afghan forces.

NATO said the incident unfolded when two individuals wearing Afghan National Defense and Security Forces uniforms opened fire on the victims’ vehicle. The apparent insider attack would be the third one this year.

No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack.
