According to STATS, this was the first year in the NFL’s common draft era, which began in 1967, that no players from the Southwestern Athletic Conference or Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference were selected in the NFL draft. The two leagues, which are comprised of historically black colleges and universities, have produced hundreds of NFL players. Here is a year-by-year breakdown of how many players were drafted from the SWAC and MEAC (combined) each season.
